The Nepal-India security talks have been put off by the Indian side. The home-secretary level meeting, which was scheduled for May 18-19, has been rescheduled for June 13-14 in New Delhi upon the Indian request.
“We have received an informal request from the Indian side that Indian Home Secretary G K Pillai would not available on May 18-19, so it was wise to postpone the meeting,” said a senior home ministry official. The proposed meeting which has been convening in alternative capitals is expected to take up bilateral security concerns including cross-border crime. Nepal is likely to seek Indian help in controlling activities of armed outfits in the Tarai region and for networking, upgradation and modernisation of the Tribhuvan International Airport.
According to sources, the Nepali side will also take up the issue of the construction of an India-funded police academy in Panauti, Kavre district. India is likely to raise the issues of fake Indian currency, sky marshal on Indian flights and signing of the extradition treaty, among others, said Nepali officials.
However both sides have yet to exchange their possible agenda of the meeting.
