Sadbhawana Party chairman Rajendra Mahato on Friday warned that his party will walk out of the Constituent Assembly (CA) and take to the streets to wage a strong movement if the CA’s term is extended again without forging consensus among the parties.
Speaking at the Reporters’ Club in the capital today, Mahato was of the opinion that the ruling parties are trying to extend CA’s term without forging broad consensus among the parties and with the sole intention to extend their stay in the helms of state affairs rather than to ensure peace and constitution.
He said that rather than going for the second extension of the CA, this is the time for the parties to do some soul searching and ask themselves the real reason behind their inability to ensure timely drafting of the constitution and take the peace process to a logical conclusion.
Claiming that CA’s tenure won’t be extended as the government has planned because of differences on the very issue among the leaders of the ruling parties including CPN (UML), Mahato said that a clear roadmap to complete the ongoing processes of peace and constitution should be prepared before going for extension of CA’s tenure.
